Help Josh Fight

Donation protected
Joshua Monk has recently been diagnosed with Glioblastoma. Glioblastoma is an aggressive brain cancer, generally found in the cerebral hemispheres of the brain. This is an unrelenting and hostile form of cancer. It moves fast and does not generally offer a favorable diagnosis. At this time his family and loved ones are still reeling from this diagnosis and trying to make sense of the how and why. While we may not understand this, what we do understand is that Josh is a fighter.

Josh has overcome much adversity in his 40 years of life. Those close to him know the demons he has faced personally.  Years ago he chose to close the door on pain and sadness and began a relationship with Jesus Christ. Through his dedicated faith and love in Jesus he became a Pastor at Maywood Baptist Church and now helps countless others who face the same plights he overcame. The impact he has made on people is unparalleled.

With infinite faith in their Heavenly Father, Josh and his wife Amanda, a nursing student, are extremely tenacious and dogged in their positive attitudes. The roller coaster ride they have embarked on is certainly not one that they willingly chose but like many other aspects of Josh’s life he will face this hurdle with dignity, courage and a willingness to push through and come out on the other side leading the pack.

This situation is hard enough for all of us adults to comprehend, and then there is Kinley, Josh’s soon to be 10 year old daughter. She is the apple of his eye and so far has been shielded from the harsh reality and severity of her dad’s health issue. One of their favorite things to do together is to attend the St. Louis Cardinals’ games. Their goal was to see the Cardinals play in a new stadium each summer. The reality is, this might not happen. Josh wants to chase the Cardinals for a few games this season, with Amanda and Kinley while he still has the strength to do so.

The time has come to begin making plans for the future and to come to terms with what this diagnosis may bring.  The treatments for this cancer are astronomically expensive and while insurance will provide some padding, with Josh unable to work, there are going to be more medical bills than income. Josh has never been the type to ask for a handout and is still not asking. He is humble and as his friends and family, we want to give back to him. Our goal is to raise money to help with medical bills and for him to take his dream trip with his family while he is able to. Josh needs to focus on healing, living and his family, not worry about finances. He has come too far in his life to quit now. We have faith that he will persevere and battle this while remaining positive and spreading God's word.
