A Helping Hand for Scott
Donation protected
I am writing to thank you once again for your generosity, concern, and support throughout the healing process of my right hand. Today marks the fifth month since I amputated all four fingers with a circular saw while working on my carpentry job. Since the beginning of this campaign, you all have contributed over $18,000 in support; through a combination of this GoFundMe page and direct giving. I find it difficult to articulate my humble appreciation for all you have done. Thank you.
I am joyfully bringing this campaign to a close. While my fingers still have a ways to go, I am now working. I have returned to this job I love - restoring old homes to the families that live in them. I am able to support myself once again.
Dr. Irene Pien was the primary surgeon from Massachusetts General Hospital who operated on my fingers. She has since graduated from her residency at MGH and has moved to San Jose, California. She did an incredibly intricate job reattaching my fingers: the bones were cut, the blood vessels and nerves were severed, the tendons were torn asunder. She skillfully put them all back together. Now you can hardly see a scar. The feeling is gradually returning to my fingers as the nerves continue to reconnect. With the constant support of Kathleen Dorr, my primary occupational therapist, I am steadily gaining improved motion in each finger.
I will continue to provide you with updates, and the best way is through this platform. However, I am no longer asking for contributions. Please, you've done so much already. However, I welcome any essay you would like to provide as part of the "In Their Eyes" series.
God bless each and every one of you.
Much love, Scott
