Over the last couple of years my husband Don and I and our friend Joe Barron have befriended a young man in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. His name is Angel. He is in his early 30s, is married to Anna, and has three young girls: Pricila, 10; Diana, seven; and Evelyn, 18 months. They live in an area on the outskirts of town called Colonia el Caribe (pictured below).

Angel works two jobs and does any other odd jobs he can find to try and support his family. Since his wife doesn't speak English, she takes on the odd cleaning or child care job. During Hurricane Odile , which hit the Baja Peninsula in the fall of 2014, they lost nearly everything, including, the roof off of their home.
Their home is divided into two parts, each measuring about 10 ft. by 12 ft. They were able to cover the first half with wood which they then covered with a sheet of plastic.

The second half has remained open. They also lost the only window they had in the second half. They are all currently living in the half with the makeshift roof. Everything they own, which isn't much, is in there too: one double bed, one single bed, a dresser, a stove, a small fridge, one very small working space to prepare meals, and a propane tank. In the second half is a small, round, plastic table (like a patio table) and four chairs. There is no running water. All the bathing and washing of clothes and dishes is done outside.

We would like to help them be able to build a cement roof on their home. Both halves would have to be done. The home is made of concrete blocks and a cement roof would protect it from a hurricane or any other type of storm.
We believe we also have a duty to help out people in our own country, and we know most of you probably aready support organizations that help people in need, but we still feel we can do this, especially since we know this family. We are hoping to raise the approximately CDN$4,000 which would be needed for supplies to complete this project and we are seeking your financial help. Any amount would be gladly accepted and appreciated. Angel and his family and friends will do the labour.
We will not be giving the money to them directly. It will be credited to them through a local hardware/building store that will give them supplies as needed.

They are a beautiful, young family just surviving on the money they bring in. They will never be able to afford to cover the second half of their home. While we were there this year we bought the girls a few things (crayons, pencils, glue, scissors, paper, paint and brushes, and plasticine). They were so grateful and over the top with excitement. Within a few minutes the two older girls, all on their own, wrote us a thank you card and decorated it with their new supplies. It was heartwarming.
(A thank you letter from the girls)
Please see the pictures included to help you also put their faces to their story. We will post pictures again once the work has been completed. Thank you, in advance, for your support.
