Hi, my name is Kita and this is our story.
Shawn and I met in July of 2016, and for anyone who knows him, he came into my life like a hurricane. He bundled me up into his life, stepped in to co parent my kids, giving me five of his own to love and cherish. He quickly moved us in together and in early 2017, we combined families.
For the next nine years, we laughed, argued, loved, lost a grandchild, greeted more and through it all, loved each other desperately.
In November 2019, we bought our first home. Proudly making it our own, we painted, and tried opening a business in the basement and then covid happened. Over the course of the next 2 years, through illness and injury Shawn became our sole provider and he went back to work full time.
We transitioned the basement into a one bedroom apartment for his son and girlfriend and we struggled along.
In April, Shawn had his first heart attack, terrifying everyone in the family. Over the next few months, he healed, went through Physio and then went back to work.
In early summer, proudly , his son and daughter in law bought their first home and moved out, leaving us the feeling of being empty nesters!
In late July, tragedy struck again and Shawn's ex-wife suffered a house fire, losing their home. Of course, we did what we always do and opened our home. She, her boyfriend and their (Shawn) youngest daughter (13), moved into the basement.
And as a lot of you know, tragedy hit my house once again, and on September 26, 2025, Shawn went to work and never came home. We lost him that day to a second heart attack. We are devestated.
I planned what turned into a shit show of a funeral, and now am fighting to keep our home. His ex-wife and children are now trying to steal our home out from under me.
Shawn and I worked for the 9 years we were together to get out of being house broke all of the time and were so excited to buy our home in Stone Mills. We created a small community of friends and acquaintances over the years and now driven by someone else's cruelty and greed, i am forced to be fighting to keep what we worked so hard for.
So, I guess this is where all of you come in. I am 1, trying to pay off the funeral expenses, 2, fight though court to save our home. I am coming to you for help. Every little bit counts.
I am grateful to all of you who help. Thank you so much!!
God Bless you!
Kita
