Friday night I watched a fire destroy the second floor apartment of my mother's home, and the subsequent structural and water damage from flooding have totaled our apartment as well. After fleeing from Hurricane Katrina in 2005, we did not think we'd find ourselves in a position like this again. My mother is a full-time middle school science teacher; her books, papers, furniture, and other items are all damaged or destroyed. We have two animals that are being displaced by the fire, one bearded dragon who we are now receiving inquiries about and one disabled kitty with Cerebellar Hypoplasia.
