With deepest thanks for your support, I invite you to the building dedication for Russ Richards Hall: Science, Health and Wellness on May 24th. Please contact me through GoFundMe for more details. We not only have the building signed and ceremony planned, but we have also started the Russ Richards Memorial Scholarship with the Las Cruces Public Schools Foundation. This will benefit Las Cruces High School students and others who are seeking training and education in health, medicine, and emergency services careers. Thank you again for helping us carry Russ's name forward!
Hello! I'm Catherine Massey, and I'm fundraising to put the sign on the Russ Richards Science building at Las Cruces High School, NM. Russ was our dear, remarkable science teacher colleague, who taught science at LCHS from 1992 to 2004. He touched students' lives throughout his career before he died of cancer at age 42.
Russ established NM's first high school Responding to Emergencies course and helped to found LCHS’ Health Academy and the Wilderness Club. He led students on hikes in Mimbres, climbs in the Organ Mountains and scuba dives in Mexico. A model of service in the community, he was a fire chief, an emergency medical services instructor, and much more.
He mentored countless students and community members, educating them about injury prevention and inspiring them to pursue careers of service in health and emergency services.
We honor and remember him by putting a sign on the science building:
Russ Richards Hall
Science, Health, and Wellness
Your donation will purchase the sign lettering in a style matching the other buildings on campus, installation, and a commemorative plaque for the lobby.
Won't you help us honor this wonderful teacher?
