Pushkar's mobility fund

To my kind and generous friends:

I’m reaching out today to ask you to help Pushkar, one of my dear friends.

In early 2016, Pushkar came down with the flu. He started to lose sensation in his lower limbs, and his symptoms got progressively got worse despite intensive treatment.

Pushkar was finally diagnosed with a rare auto-immune disease called Acute Transverse Myelitis, which is of unknown cause, and affects about one in a million people in the US annually. After aggressive treatment including plasma pheresis, IVIg and steroid therapy, his condition was stabilized, but he lost all use of his lower body.  Pushkar was discharged from the hospital after 12 weeks of intense therapy. He is wheelchair-bound, but otherwise in good health, with full control over his cognitive abilities and upper body.

Pushkar is the sole source of income for his loving family which includes his ever supportive wife and two adorable boys (11 and 5).

They moved to the United States from India in 2012 and, like millions before, hoped for a better future. As an able-bodied professional, Pushkar was full of life, and looking forward to many years of health and happiness with his family and friends. Ever the optimist, despite this life-altering disease, he is now working towards adapting to his new life in a wheelchair, and taking active steps to get back to work by July of 2017. His workplace has been very supportive, but he still needs help with making mobility adaptations at home and outside. These adaptations are all expensive, and are not covered by insurance. He has secured some funding from charitable organizations, but it is nowhere close to what he needs in order to get back to work. Any help that you are able to provide will be gratefully accepted.

Support is needed for:
- 1 Curved Stairlift, connecting the lower to the upper level of the house. Pushkar is currently residing on the lower level, without access to his shower - $13,100
- 1 Straight Stairlift to access the basement -  $3,200
- 2 Additional wheelchairs (used) - $1,500
- 1 minivan adapted for wheelchair use - $35,000
Total: $52,800
