Hi! My name is Mateo, and I am a high school student who attends Fleetwood International Church’s youth group, PURSU1T. I am excited to share that I will be joining a short-term mission trip to Baja California, Mexico, with PURSU1T Youth from August 1 to August 8, 2026.

Our youth group is sending a team of 24 youth to Ensenada, Mexico, in partnership with Cedar Grove Baptist Church. Together, in collaboration with YUGO Ministries, a mission base located in Ensenada, our goal is to build a home for a local Mexican family in need. YUGO Ministries exists to mobilize and equip God’s people to reach the forgotten, and through their New Building Ministry, people of all ages and experience levels are able to demonstrate God’s love by constructing a new home for a family in need.

Through this experience, our churches will be planning, praying, and fundraising together, and we will also have the opportunity to fellowship together at the YUGO base. Our team’s goal for this trip is to grow in our service and compassion for others, develop leadership skills, build community, and discover our gifts and talents through these service opportunities.

On a personal level, I have been on this trip before with YUGO Ministries, and it was an incredible and life-changing experience. We built a house for a single mother and her two children, and it was such a blessing to be able to help provide them with a home. I was inspired by the teamwork God showed us throughout the trip, and it motivated me to truly “break into a run” in my faith. I saw how God provided for our team, and it gave me confidence that He would provide in all areas of my life. That experience also inspired me to join the IB program and grow into the musician I am today.

I hope to go on this trip again so I can help lead youth who have never been before and witness firsthand how God will work through this mission team. I also hope to become a teacher in the future, and I believe that seeing a group of youth work together to accomplish such a meaningful goal will help me better understand and support my future students.
