Yuba County Flood Cats

Donation protected

Due to the recent flooding in Yuba County an entire homeless camp was wiped out. This was an area many people and their pets called home.  These people were forced to evacuate and they didn’t have the means or time to take all of the cats so many were left behind. Sadly, among all of the devastation, Ruth and I saw many dead cats in trees. We were fortunate enough to be able to rescue 21 cats with a 2 man inflatable boat. Ruth grabbed cats from trees and manged to coax a few to jump into the boat.  Many trips were made to bring cats out of the flood zone and to leave food on roof tops for the stranded cats. The cats were living in  trees, on the tops of tents, roofs  of mobile and make shift homes. When the water receded we were able to walk through the slick mud and water to rescue 6 more cats from the devastated camp site.

Funds raised will be used to help with medical expenses, spay/neuter, vaccinations and  food to get these cats healthy and ready for adoption. Our initial efforts are to get medical care for 9 cats that are in our foster care. There are three in need of more critical care: 1) Karma (Torti) cat that needs a leg amputation  2) Babe (Siamese) with bowel issues from  being stranded on a tree branch for four days 3) Zorro who had to have an eye removed.

We will also be using the funds to  feed the cats we had to leave on the levi.   It broke my heart to leave them on the levi, but I had no help to place them. I thought letting them go  was more humane  then letting them drown or starve.

These cats are very friendly, social and miss their human families. Our goal is to find forever, caring and loving homes.  As our funds allow I will strive to spay/neuter and relocate the friendly kitties to a better location.

Purrfect Paws Cat Rescue is a PRIVATELY FUNDED feline rescue.  All funds are used towards the rescue and care of cats (the occasional dog, too).  We make no profit from from what we do.  Are hearts are bigger than our bank account so any donation is greatly appreciated.  If you would like to mail in a donation please make payable to Leslie Zaletel and mail to 1435 Butte House Rd, Yuba City, CA 95993
