Purr and Fur: A Relief Project for Pasadena Humane

My name is Aarav Munoor and I am an upcoming Eagle Scout with JPL Troop 509. Pasadena Humane is a local animal shelter in Pasadena that helps care for and rehome dogs, cats, and other pets in need. They take in stray, injured, and surrendered animals and give them medical care, food, and a safe place to stay while they wait to be adopted. They also run programs to help people learn how to be better pet owners and offer services like low-cost vaccines and spay/neuter clinics.

I was inspired to create this project with Pasadena Humane Society as the beneficiary after learning that they took in nearly 800 displaced pets during the January 2025 LA fires. My family and I evacuated during the fires, but we were fortunate enough to come home in three days and get back to our routines. Many were not so fortunate. As I drove through Altadena and was researching potential project ideas, I realized how many pets had been separated from their owners as a result of this fire. I know how confused my dog Astro was, and how he clung to us the three days we were away from home. This was the birth of my idea.

Building cat beds, dog enrichment toys, and donating canned dog food and towels was described by the director as their highest need. Your donations will go towards purchasing fleece, mats, and tools needed to build and procure these items to donate to Pasadena Humane.
