About Purple Tree and this Fundraiser
Purple Tree Café is a nonprofit in Davis, California that creates community-based employment for people with disabilities and brings together people with and without disabilities through food, art, and music. We bake and sell vegan and wheat-free baked goods at the Davis Farmers Market and other local events. We also hold the Purple Tree Hootenanny, a series of disability-inclusive music events. .
We are asking for your help to raise $25,000 to launch Purple Tree @ Black Frog, a pop-up cafe at Black Frog Coffee in downtown Davis. Our employees, who have physical, intellectual, developmental and/or mental health disabilities, will sell our baked goods from Black Frog when they are closed on weekday afternoons. This project will double the hours of employment that we can provide to our bakers, servers and cashiers, adding over 600 hours in just the first six months of this pop-up. Having a physical space to anchor ourselves within the community is a big step toward expanding our operations and creating inclusive spaces within Davis where community truly means everyone.
We are hoping to raise the first $5,000 toward our goal by Giving Tuesday on November 30.
