Hope for Valentina

Imagine the symptoms of Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Parkinson’s, Epilepsy and Anxiety Disorder… all in one little girl - that is Rett Syndrome.

For those of you who may not know, my daughter Valentina has Rett Syndrome.

Rett Syndrome is a serious lifelong neurological disorder that is caused by random mutations in a gene called MECP2. Diagnosed almost exclusively in girls, symptoms typically appear in toddlerhood. Many children with Rett are unable to speak, walk or use their hands. Breathing problems, feeding tubes, seizures, anxiety, gastrointestinal and orthopaedic issues are common.

However it has been proven that Rett can be ‘reversed’ and a clinical trial for children in Australia has been approved and will be announced shortly.

Next month marks Rett Syndrome Awareness Month and in honour of this month, I will colour my hair purple if we can reach $2500 to go towards the Rett Syndrome Association of Australia (RSAA).

So dig deep everyone and help us come one step closer to making Rett Syndrome history!
