Purchasing the Centurion Pub

Your local pub needs your support!

As you know, the Centurion pub or ‘the cenny’ as it is known by the locals, has been an essential fixture in Vicars Cross since it opened in the 1960s, which is run by the community for the community.

Our goal is to secure the future of the Cenny for everyone who needs it. We envisage a sustainable, community-owned business that is inclusive, customer-friendly, and which contributes to a vibrant and thriving Vicars Cross.

We are very proud that the Centurion has successfully completed seven years of trading as a community pub, via a lease agreement with current owners Admiral Taverns.

However, now we have the only realistic opportunity to secure its future as a community-run and community owned asset. We need to purchase the freehold of the site from Admiral Taverns, and the agreed price is £600,000.

Things are going really well so far. We successfully bid to the Community Ownership Fund and been awarded a grant of £250,000 towards the purchase of the pub. As part of the requirements for this grant, we need to raise £175,000 ourselves.

In just under three months, we’re already over a third of the way there thanks to our share offer and your commitment to this. However we now have just over a month to raise the remaining funds.

However, we are aware that not everyone can meet the £250 minimum amount to purchase shares. So, we’ve launched this GoFundMe page for you to give whatever you can. Every contribution helps, no matter how small.

Everything you donate will be held by GoFundMe until we are ready to proceed with the purchase. We can meet our target with the support of the local community. However if for any reason we don’t, please be assured that anything you give will be refunded by GoFundMe (a process that usually takes between seven and ten business days).

The clock is ticking …

The full funds need to be in place by the end of March 2024 to fully complete the sale by September 2024, otherwise, we will lose the entire £250,000 grant.

If we miss this opportunity to purchase the pub, its future will become very uncertain. We can only secure it for everyone with your support.
