My name is Linda and I am a mother of 4. I was in the airforce and lived a very active life, playing netball and walking with my dogs. I became a nurse and worked nights for many years in hospitals and care homes. In 2007 I was diagnosed with MS. My health has declined steadily since and I am now confined to a wheelchair and require 24/7 care which I receive in my bungalow.
I am eager to build on my strength and balance to hopefully develop my walking. My family have discussed this with me in detail and researched how they can best support me to do this.
I have been working hard and have progressed from transferring and walking a few steps using a walker, to using a walking stick for these few steps with supervision.

I believe that I would benefit far more from changing my goal. I would definitely prefer to be able to walk a little than have a stand up wheelchair so my daughter has been in discussions with a trusted and experienced Personal Trainer who feels strongly that he can help
A note from my daughter, Stacy: My mum is a fiercely independent woman, therefore she keeps trying to do things she can no longer do by herself. This has resulted in her breaking both of her arms, her shoulder, elbow and hip. This is heartbreaking to watch for me and the rest of the family. It’s like watching mum’s fighting spirit being put in a straight jacket by her MS and her current immobility. Mum is still fighting despite having always struggled with mental health issues. Improving her mobility will also be a big boost to her mental health.
