Puppy savaged by 2 pit bull looking dogs.Vet fees
Donation protected
Hi my name is Lisa. My partner was walking our 8 month old border poodle on his lead today. Two pit bull looking dogs ran up from no where, no lead, no owners and savaged our puppy. Luckily someone helped my partner or our puppy wouldn't be alive now.
We took him to the vet and he has small puncture wounds and deep wounds around his neck, chest, body. The vet said he is lucky to be alive, if it wasn't for his harness along with the assistance of my partner and the local man. He's got antibiotics and pain medication. Tomorrow the vet wants to sedate our puppy to shave his body to see if there are more wounds and also prevent infection as well as stiching his wounds or clipping them closed.
At this time we do not know what vet fees will be incurred or if he will have to stay over etc.
We are struggling financially at the moment like the majority of people. I don't like to ask but my puppy needs the sedation/care.
Any help will be appreciated, no matter how small.
Thank you in advance.
If donations go over the amount needed, we will donate the rest to a local animal charity.
Update 13/05/23
Update on Berty.
He went back to the vet today for sedation but they decided to not to.
They are leaving his wounds open as some have shrunk a little and they don't want to trap bugs inside the wounds. He hadn't passed urine since the attack so he had to have a catheter to help him have a huge wee. They suspect maybe it's too painful for him to squat with his body and he seems to have a limp.
He has 24 hours to pass urine on his own or he's to go back for catheterisation and take it from there.
He already had 2 types of antibiotics given yest, a pain med and had paracetamol which he will continue on.
Today they have now added Gabapentin for pain.
He has to wear a med vest... and has got 2 of these as his chest wounds oozes a lot.
He has an appointment in 5 days to see how he is doing. Unless anything changes with his wounds or urine etc which he will have to return earlier.
Bert used to love other dogs but in the vet he was really weary. He's not himself but I'm so happy at how well he's doing.
So far the vet bills are at approx 220. Not including his future appointments etc.x
Ty to those who have helped and those that will.
I've been contacted by the go fund me page and Lancs Live want to speak to me about what happened. I've agreed if they keep my face out of anything lol. Them dogs are dangerous as hell, Bert is so very lucky. Awareness needs to be raised and them dogs stopped. Still awaiting the police to get back to us as the vet advised we fill a form online, which was done yesterday.
Berts med suit covers the areas that need to be avoided being scratched and protected from infection occurring. X
Update 18/05/23
Berts has been back to the vet for his check up. All his wounds are healing well. His chest still oozes but it's closing together now the wounds. They are happy for him to finish his antibiotics and pain meds and keep wearing his vest till he is fully healed and lost his scabs.
We don't need any more donations thank you. We will wait a week or so after his antibiotics are finished and make sure he is not going to need anymore etc. Then we will try find a charity that maybe helps people/dogs in emergency need like Bert did. We shall have a good look.
Thank you everyone from all of us, I know if Berty could say thanks, he would. I just hope when he goes for a walk when he's healed he will still be a happy dog that wants to just say Hi to everyone and everything. He's dealt with it really well all in all.
Still waiting for the dog warden to get back to us.
They was already aware of the dogs that hurt him as the public had called the police and the dog warden.
Lanc live have done a news report. Some of what isn't what we said but it gives you an idea.
