Puppy has a compressed spine and needs surgery
On Wednesday morning we took “Puppy,” our 4-1/2 year old dog to our vet, Beville Animal Hospital, here in Daytona Beach because she spent Tuesday night incessantly trembling and panting. We thought she had been bitten by a spider or ground wasp or a snake in the back yard when we put her out on her leash to “do her business” before bed. Benadryl seemed to settle her down for a few hours, but it was obvious that something was seriously WRONG when we woke in the morning - she couldn’t move her hind legs and she couldn’t wag her super-duper waggly tail. The vet did a physical exam, ran a bunch of tests, and did X-RAYS. The X-RAYS revealed compressed vertebrae, and Dr. Garrett’s diagnosis was that Puppy likely tweaked her back in such a way as to have pinched a nerve, which is causing her pain and paralysis in her hind legs.
The vet sent us home with pain meds, hopeful that the inflammation would subside and relieve the nerve pressure. THAT HASN’T HAPPENED. We took her back yesterday and they expressed her bladder - which seemed to have made things worse. This morning Puppy has lost control of her bladder.
Aside from her spine issue, our little snuggle Puppy is healthy, and seeing her in pain, doped up on drugs, shaking, and hearing her whimper is heartbreaking. This morning I spoke with “Carrie” at Affiliated Veterinary Specialists (AVS), Blue Pearl Hospital in Maitland, Florida. Based on the X-RAYs and what’s happening, emergency surgery is in order and they can do the job. While we’ve already spent over $500 with Beville Animal Hospital this week, AVS requires another $7,351 to fix the issue.
Please share Puppy’s story to help us raise the funds needed for our fur baby to get the surgery she needs to live out her full, snuggle-Puppy life without pain or paralysis.
With love, hope & gratitude,
