"I was attacked yesterday morning while walking my dogs in Carrol-Oaks Neighborhood. A Pit mix with longer than normal coat trotted up and attacked without warning. I am 70. My dogs are very little. One is tan colored the other is black. Both weigh under 15 lbs. 

I picked them up to avoid any trouble and the Pit-mix charged. I was knocked down and my dogs were ripped from hands. The Pit mix knocked me down a total of 4 times. He wanted my dogs. 

The little Black dog Char had her abdomen ripped open and her intestines were hanging out. Delilah my little tan dog had her leg almost torn off. She has puncture wounds all over her body. Neither dog is out of the woods yet. 

My Vet bill for 4 hours of surgery per dog is about $5,000. And Char is still at the Emergency Hospital. I am fortunate that Brodie Animal Hospital reduce my bill considerably. Restores my faith in Veterinary Care. 

I haven’t gotten my Hospital bill yet. We all know what that visit will cost. 

Here is the Kicker, it was the Pit- Mix 2nd time to attack. Once wasn’t enough. The owner probably can’t afford to fix his fence. He can afford to feed the dog. Have 3 cars in his driveway. He can afford his tattoos. However he is unable to be responsible for a dog that enjoyed attacking my dogs. He fence is still un-repaired. I was a block and a half from his home.

The Police are involved. I trust their procedures in investigating this attack. 

I want to thank the man with a British accent who came to my rescue. Without him walking outside to help. The Pit would have outright killed Delilah. The Pit was enjoying his time assaulting us. 

The Woman Angel, who saw Char running with her leash still attached. Char in shock and adrenaline flowing ran 1/2 mile toward home with her intestine hanging out. That wonderful woman stopped her and she was calling for help. I finally caught up, limping from the attack. My Angel brought out towels and put my shaking self into her car with both of my bloody dogs. She drove us to Brodie Animal Hospital. They immediately came out and started saving my dogs. Brodie Animal Hospital are wonderful compassionate people. The Drs, Assistants, and virtually everyone there showed their professionalism and passion for helping. Chelsea, I will forever be Grateful for your concern and help in reducing my stress and shock. You are wonderful like the rest of the people at Brodie Animal. 

I hope this was written well. I am still more than a little shaken. My Acupuncturist is getting me in today. I am waiting to see when a Trauma Therapist can see me. I will be better, I will grow from this experience.

Our neighborhood has some amazing people. I will still walk our streets. I will still wave to the people I see. Life goes on. Be Well. Don’t live in fear. Take Care."

Since he's written this, we have found out about multiple other attacks by the same dog. At least one person had their pet ripped from their hands and killed in front of them. The city doesn't have recourse for dog-on-dog violence and the physical injury to humans has been mild enough not to warrant action.

Any funds raised here will, first and foremost, be used to pay for the medical care needed for our dogs and dad to not just survive but THRIVE. Funds above and beyond that will go to fixing the man's fence - we don't want anyone else to go thru the trauma we have and fence repair seems like the easiest solution.
