Punta Las Marías: Rolling in Silence
A documentary short about the pride of an island and the fight to save skate culture.

A skatepark. A gathering place. A resistance. Puntas Las Marías is a handbuilt skatepark made by the local people in Puerto Rico. Without any government support, the people came together and shared resources to build this community hub.
Over the years, Puntas Las Marías has become a haven. Artists, athletes, and vendors come together to protect and create this sanctuary for the people. Built from scratch and community resources, the skatepark is under threat of losing the land.
American tourists, lack of government support, and an influx of tourist money are coming; yet the pride of the Island, and the pride of its people, remains strong. This documentary explores a story of modern colonization and people’s resistance through the sport of rebellion and freedom: skateboarding.
Puntas Las Marías is a living thing. The skatepark is made up of each community member, with every ramp hand-built by locals and the love of the people. In our documentary, we will share these stories, tracking them as an artery to the heart of the community.
Our storytelling will focus on the diversity of the land, the people, and a movement emphasizing Puerto Rico’s sovereignty. By bringing the visuals and the heart of the skatepark to life, we make this community tangible and share the resisting rallying cry from the Island. We will invite audience members to learn and join in the unfolding story, where there is clear action to take and a larger story to let those who have been silenced remember they are not alone. We will give a voice to the people.

Where do these funds go?
In our first round of fundraising, we are asking for a small documentary fund to begin filming and create materials so we can apply for grants and develop partnerships with larger organizations. We are a small and mighty team of passionate folks, working from scratch to raise the voices and story of Puntas Las Marías.
One hundred percent of funds will go towards production costs, including equipment rentals, travel, and paying our skilled team members - meet us on the website, coming soon!

Our goal is to raise the rest of the funds via organizations and grants, so when we raise community money after the film premieres, it will ALL go towards Puntas Las Marías and the local community.
