Hello Friend!
I'm Jess, and more likely than not we have something in common: We count Sarah Bebb as a friend (or relative, or coworker, or teammate, perhaps even crush or frenemy). As you probably know late last year Sarah was hospitalized (after I told her to go to the doctor, like, four times) and came out the other side with a life altering diagnosis: Type 1 Diabetes.
Here are some facts about Type 1 Diabetes that I learned from Sarah's one woman show SICK LITTLE FREAK:
- There is no cure, making T1D a lifelong chronic illness
- T1D can be triggered by Long Covid
- T1D basically makes your day to day activities 1000 times harder to manage.
- T1D is an EXPENSIVE AS HELL disease to have
Not only did Sarah make it out of the hospital after nearly dying of Ketoacidosis, since then she has gone back to work in TV development, got her A1C down to a manageable level, and sold out her run of the previously mentioned one woman show at the Hollywood Fringe Festival! And among the hopeful news is this: Sarah was approved for an insulin pump! Something she tells me is very good as it means she won't have to do multiple daily injections. The downside, if you haven't guessed already based on the fact that you're reading this information in a GoFundMe, is this: it's very expensive. Yes, even with insurance!!!
So here we are! Trying to raise money to make our friend's life a little easier because the American Healthcare System will not. After convincing Sarah that she is in fact "loved," and "has friends," and is "part of a close and loving community of performers and writers who would love to support her," and NOT in fact "panhandling," she has allowed me to start this GoFundMe. I hope you can spare a few bucks to help out our beautiful, funny, creative, loving friend while she continues to navigate this incredibly strange and wildly difficult first year of diagnosis. And if you can't, I totally understand, instead I ask that you share this page with your rich gay aunt or something.
Thanks for reading and thanks for supporting!
xoxo,
