Pumba in the ICU

Hello, my name is Pumba the Friendly Bulldog. I am 2 years old and I love butt scratches, sunbathing next to windows, and shredded chicken & rice when my tummy is upset.

I also love supporting my human, Brent. We are the best team ever.

Earlier today I was on a walk with my human, Brent, when I suddenly got too hot and ended up very sick. (Oh, I love going on walks, too!)

Brent took me straight to the “E” Room. He carried me and cried a lot. Then a bunch of very nice doctors and nurses stood around me for several hours and helped me. I got very sleepy. (I like to sleep a lot, too—it’s a Bull Dog thing).

At first, the doctors were scared I might not make it, but something called a “transfusion” is helping me. I’m doing a little better but I’m still very sleepy and they say I’m “not quite out of the woods yet” (although I still don’t see any trees here? Humans are silly sometimes).

Anyways, I’m gonna go take another nap and I hope I get to see Brent again tomorrow . I know he’s sad and misses me. I miss him, too. Maybe when I get home he will give me all the Shredded Chicken & Rice I want.

Oh, and please help my human if you can.

The Goal:
This fundraiser was started for Pumba and his owner, Brent, to help pay for Pumba’s live-saving medical treatment. Pumba is currently in the ICU after suffering a sudden heat stroke during a walk.

Pumba has had some swelling in his brain and needed one transfusion due to bruising, but is finally showing “cautiously optimistic” signs of stabilizing. He is now able to slightly lift and turn his head slightly as well as blink and twitch his ears in response to hearing his name. He responds subtly but clearly to having Brent, his human, next to him in the ICU.

Cost: The first 24 hours alone has cost over $6k, not including the cost of each transfusion which cost $2k each (he has needed 1 so far and may need more). We anticipate a minimum of 3 days in the hospital if not longer. And we anticipate Pumba’s medical costs will be a minimum of $12k at least, if not significantly more.

Brent has $1k in the bank to help pay for this, and he’s already committed every dollar he has. After all, Pumba is his baby.

Proceeds: All gifts will go towards Pumba’s medical costs. Any excess will be used for Pumba to aid in his recovery or necessary care going forward.

About the human: Brent has been with Pumba since he was 8 weeks old. They are nearly inseparable, and Brent frequently talks about how much better his life became with Pumba in it.

About Pumba: Pumba is a 2 year old English Bulldog who is loved by everyone who meets him. When not sunbathing by windows, he also enjoys rolling around in the backyard, chewing on a stuffed turkey, and trying to prove that even 55lb bull dogs can be good “lap dogs.” Brent can’t wait to see Pumba be healthy enough to come home again.

Lastly, this fundraiser was started by Brent’s friends and we hope when Brent sees this he smiles. We know you love Pumba so much and would do anything for him, so we wanted to start this for you.
