The isolated Achuar indigenous community of Kusutkau, in the Ecuadorian Amazon rainforest, is only accessible by lightweight airplanes or a 10-day walk. The Achuar people living in the area, are well-known for their commitment to preserve and protect the rainforest. However, the new generations are facing difficult challenges to access education, defend their land and preserve their native language.

In this context, inspired by the traditional Achuar community house and respectful of their culture, a group of Ecuadorian students in MIT (Boston, U.S.) and Quito, Ecuador started Pukuni Community House in the Spring of 2016. The Pukuni Community House  is an energy-autonomous, community-centered, education and communication hub currently being built in the Kusutkau community. The Pukuni Community House, designed by active collaboration with the Kusutkau community, combines traditional Achuar elements with modern education apps, designed for the preservation of the Achuar language, the improvement of the education of young children in the area and the preservation of traditional Achuar culture. The project was a winner among 50 projects of the MIT Ideas Global Challenge 2017.

Currently a pilot of the community house is being built in the Kusutkau community. Due to the Kusutkau's community isolation, the cost of transporting materials and construction are higher than our initial budget. To finish the Pukuni Community House and fulfill our promise with Kusutkau community, we need an additional $2,500 to cover transportation costs. With your contribution, you will be providing education and greater connectivity to the guardians of the jungle.
