Shelly (Higginbotham) Wilkerson was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML) on May 17th of 2013 and has now progressed to Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Shelly was transferred to T. Boone Cancer Center, a component of Baylor Hospital in Dallas, Texas on January 12, 2015 from Mother Francis Hospital in Tyler, Texas (after many months of her being in the hospital for her birthday, anniversary, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Eve) in hopes of a bone marrow transplant. Shelly currently has pneumonia and the family has opted to have someone spend the night with her every night; otherwise, someone comes up every day and Brian would spend weekend nights.
Shelly Higginbotham Wilkerson graduated from Grand Saline HS in 1988 serving as a cheerleader and band member. She has worked all of her adult life until the onset of leukemia with such companies as Landmark, now known as Faulker USA, Erickson Construction and Fuller Jewelry. Her parents are deceased.
Shelly and Brian have 3 children between them and took her two nephews to raise 5 years ago. They have one grandchild. Two of these children attend Lindale Middle School and Lindale High School.
Brian Wilkerson graduated from Mineola High School, as did his parents, Ron and Dianna (Furrh) Wilkerson.
These families have struggled to support Shelly in her time of need but it is amazing how expensive dental oncology, co-payments, expenses to and from the hospital, meals away from home and many other expenses become. Therefore, we are asking for help through this Go Fund Me Account.
Once Shelly’s doctors get the pneumonia under control, she is looking at another 2-3 months getting ready for the transplant and 6-9 months of aftercare.
