Puget Sound Woodworking - Keep the Shop Lights On!
Donation protected
Ten years ago, Puget Sound Woodworking opened, with the vision to create a space to share our passion for the skills , creativity, and possibilities of the wood shop. Our family took a leap of faith on this labor of love, building our capacity and reputation through hard work, dedication, sacrifice, dexterity, community support, strong coffee, and more than a little luck. It's a unique business model in the best of times, and it's a very uncertain, stressful, present and future.
Our students are the life blood of our business. We have been blessed with the best customers a business could want. Every one has shown up excited and eager to learn. It makes teaching a joy to have you in our shop.
Covid-19 has brought our ability to hold classes and bring in revenue to an abrupt halt. Puget Sound Woodworking has been closed to the public since March 14, and must remain closed for an indefinite period of time. Our core service has always been in-shop classes. Unlike some restaurants and retailers, we are extremely limited in generating online sales or curbside pick ups. With a very limited way to generate income, our cash reserves are quickly dwindling.
We’re exploring every means of possible support, including federal and local grants and loans, but these funds are not guaranteed to come in, and they won’t meet the needs of our short-to-mid-term future.
For the first time in our company's ten years, we must humbly ask for your support. We know what a difficult and uncertain time this is for everyone, and we understand that there are many individuals and organizations in need. If you’re in a position to support us we’ll be extremely grateful to receive that help, and any donation to this campaign will contribute to the cash resources we need to address our immediate needs, and to create a future in which Puget Sound Woodworking can open our shop doors again. And, if you could let others know about this campaign, we’ll appreciate that immensely, too.
At Puget Sound Woodworking we strive to share knowledge, foster makers, and send skills out into the world to help make it a little better place. We’re passionately committed to our roles as teachers and craftspeople, and are doing everything we can to keep our shop going in what is for now a very uncertain future.
Our goal is to see through this difficult time, and even in the face of formidable obstacles, we’re feeling inspired. Please be sure to stay in touch with us, keep an eye on our website and various social media channels. We miss our students and our community, please drop us a line to let us know you’re out there. The messages of support and camaraderie are priceless.
Gratefully,
Derrick and Lea Anne Burke
