Puerto Rico Earthquakes - Guanica Families

Dear Friends,

My name is Jaime Santiago, I recently retired from the Army and am currently living in Beavercreek, Ohio. I come to you with great sorrow amid the recent destruction caused by the earthquake swarm happening in Southwest PR, especially in my hometown of Guanica, Puerto Rico. Sadly, this is really my family's community new reality. What my immediate family and community are going through right now is emotionally, mentally and physically devastating. Most have lost their homes, schools and jobs, but most sadly, entire communities. It's bad enough losing a part of what's common in ones day to day life, but for everyone to lose it ALL at once, is inconsolable.

My 89 year old grandparents, like countless others, are now homeless. My mother, sister, niece, uncle and cousins displaced and facing a nearly impossible task ahead. Like them, there are many others, and our hope is to help them and their neighbors feel the power of unity and care from others willing to extend a helping hand.

The funds raised will help with basic necessities to aid with my grandparents abrupt, yet forced transition as well as help my mother and sister relocate to a safe place where they can care for them. This includes funding for airfare to Wisconsin (where they have immediate family), rent and furnishings for a new home and provide means of transportation to doctor's appointments.  The donated funds will also help support other family members including my uncle, cousins and their neighbors so they can get through this difficult and tragic event.  Our support will extend to the broader Guanica community by merging our efforts with local charities and volunteer groups to assist other families in need.
