Hello! My name is Piper Meade, and I’m currently working in Caguas, Puerto Rico. Unfortunately, Puerto Rico is facing a heartbreaking crisis with around 650,000 stray dogs roaming the island. Each week, I see new dogs in my area, likely abandoned and left to fend for themselves. As soon as a group is rescued, more appear, in need of help.
Two adult Labradors have been living near my workplace since November. The black lab, a female, is very elderly and struggles while walking. The brown lab, a male, is in good health and appears to be in decent condition. Both dogs are incredibly sweet and well-behaved.
To our surprise, the female lab recently gave birth to puppies—around three weeks ago. Their eyes are now open, and they’re growing quickly. While I've been providing food and care at my workplace, I urgently need financial assistance to provide the medical care these dogs require. Depending on the vet's findings, the medical costs could be significant.
I plan to take the female lab to the vet to address her hip issues and have her spayed so she can no longer have more puppies. I also want to ensure the puppies receive their vaccinations and necessary medical treatment as they reach the appropriate age. Depending on the vet's examination, the medical costs could be significant overall.
My long-term goal is to relocate the puppies to their forever homes at 8 weeks old and find homes for the mother and father. This may require covering extra transport costs, especially if the dogs need to be flown back to the United States. Currently, two of the puppies will stay in Puerto Rico with their new owners, while the other two will be flown to Florida to join their future families.
Any donation, large or small, will go directly to providing these dogs with a better life. I’ve also created an Amazon wishlist with items that would be incredibly helpful during this process.
Thank you for your support!
