Pudgy Pups Rescue is in trouble. And we need your help
Pudgy Pups is a Toronto based animal rescue, specializing in saving neglected, abused, sick and starved puppies from heartbreaking situations. The team behind Pudgy's have been rescuing dogs for over 2 decades and have rescued hundreds of pups in need. Our commitment to our Pudgy's Pups: If a puppy is fighting to live then we will fight with them to the end, no matter the cost, whatever it takes. These puppies were alone once, but the minute they come into our care they are a Pudgy, and no Pudgy is left behind.
Most times we are able to nurse the puppies back to health with nourishment, consistency and commitment, but in recent months there have been more and more sick puppies requiring expensive medical intervention to save their lives. We have taken in multiple puppies with severe health issues, from skin infections to even Parvo. Thankfully the puppies have all pulled through. But now, it's Pudgy Pups Rescue that needs help. This is why we are here.
The cost of vet care has far exceeded our resources. So we're turning to our community for help.
Over the past few months Pudgy Pups Rescue has encountered far higher than usual vet costs thanks to some tough rescue cases. Here are just a couple of examples, with before and after pictures of each puppy. We will continue to update this page with more rescue stories.
Vito's Case

Vito is a sweet cream coloured Labradoodle that we found starved and left in the shed, we believe because his nose had a birth defect. We didn't think he was alive but when we picked him up, we noticed he was breathing. Vito was taken to the Emergency Vet and put on life support, IV fluids and a feeding tube. Thankfully, he responded quickly to the treatment. Vito remained at the emergency vet for 5 days, then placed with a medical foster for continued care. He gained weight and grew to his full potential, after 7 weeks he was ready for adoption. Vito has now found his forever family.
Total vet bill - $6800

Xena's Case

Xena is a Maltese Shit tzu mix, who was found with the rest of her litter in a sealed box in a dumpster at just 5 weeks old. First appearing to be dirty and malnourished, we brought them home, bathed them and began to syringe feed them bone broth one by one. The next morning all the pups seemed alert except for Xena. Picking up her we felt a large and painful bump on her back. We realize the litter was dumped because of a Staph Infection. Xena was brought to the vet where she was treated and isolated. Throughout the day her condition declined with pus filled bumps covering her tiny, half pound body. She was given a 1% chance of survival. 1% is not zero so we fought with Xena. She stayed in the veterinary hospital for 5 days, then she required 2 medical baths a day taken at the vet to treat the wounds on her skin.

She was syringe fed bone broth and fluids every 45 mins - 24 hrs a day. Xena remained in our care for close to 3 months, slowly gaining weight and getting healthier. Xena has since been adopted to a close member of the Pudgy Community and is a thankfully retired warrior princess.
Total Vet Bill: $8000

Pebble's Case

Pebble was an owner surrender, who came into our care December of 2024. At first it appeared that she was merely under weight however within 24 hrs it become clear why she had been surrendered- she had Parvo, a deadly and painful disease. Pebble was admitted into intensive vet care where she was placed on life support, with IV fluids and a feeding tube. Her initial prognosis was poor, but she was a fighter. She grew stronger, and after a 6 day stay Pebble was released from the hospital. We're happy to share that Pebbles has since made a full recovery, she's been adopted and she's living the life she fought so hard for.
Total Vet Bill - $7100

Animal rescue is incredibly hard, tireless and expensive work, and with food and vetting bills in the thousands of dollars, Pudgy Pup's has fallen on incredibly hard times. We are reaching out to our community to help us through this rough patch, so Pudgy's can keep doing the work we've been doing. Please donate and/or share. Help us keep the Pudgy Pups Mission going so no puppy will ever be left behind again.
