This feels entirely surreal to finally be doing, and it’s something I’ve dreamed about for some time, but here goes nothing!

My name is Puck. I am a transgender person of the genderqueer persuasion, and I am planning to get top surgery in June of this year. It’s like a gift from the pride gods, honestly, that that’s when the surgeon I’ve been meeting with for 8 or so months was next available.

I first started my transgender journey secretly in high school theatre, silly as it sounds, asking to be considered for male roles and eventually just being given them. I remember my junior year playing the Cowardly Lion and binding my chest to play the role as a convincing man. The director even asked if I might want to omit my first name from the program, to keep the audience guessing - being clocked made me nervous about how I was being perceived, and so I shoved down any feelings about my gender until a few years later.

I came out officially at 19 or 20 years old on Twitter of all places. I changed my name to a variation of my given name to make it easier on others - more acceptable. I wanted to be palatable, and because of that, I don’t think I even really started to think of myself as transgender until my dysphoria became truly painful to ignore in the past 5 or so years.

I finally changed my name to Puck (which feels much more me) this past year and accepted that my body dysphoria is not going away. That’s how we got here!

I am very lucky to have health insurance that will cover a very large portion of this surgery, but it will not cover the procedure in its entirety. We’ve also been building our savings back up since we moved into our new place, but we don’t have enough to pay for what’s left over after insurance.

I know that money is SO tight right now everywhere, so it’s hard to ask, but I’m hoping you might be able to spare a little to help out.
