I found myself, as a 30 year old, weeping on the carpet. In one hand I held a $60,000 student loan bill and in the other hand, an $8,000 credit card bill. Wondering how I got here, the weeping become uncontrollable.
I will never forget that moment because it was the starting point of why I’m asking for your help today. That struggle, and victory, led me to start the process of publishing my first book on financial freedom.
As a 30 year old, I had a negative net worth of -$50,000 and, even though I had a UCLA degree, I didn’t understand basic financial principles. Have you ever found yourself in similar circumstances? After that unforgettable night, I dove head first into understanding why so many people were in this same dire situation.
Since then, my husband and I paid off $100,000 worth of debt. We learned the financial strategies that made us successful and we became better at managing our finances. We also excelled in being creative with increasing our net worth as well as building wealth for our family and our community. Nevertheless, through it all, I realized that it’s a game.
It’s a money game.
In my book, I focus on the offense of the money game, like budgeting, understanding your numbers (net worth, credit, debt payoff plan and savings). On the other hand, I also explain the defensive plays of this game – the psychological aspect of money, the advertising and the identity tricks that are affecting you without your knowledge.
I talk about it all.
Throughout the book I give strategies on how to identify and combat these forces. My readers will learn how to win at this money game and use money as a tool to live a life of purpose rather than a life of reaction, stress and lack.
My personal experience is a living example of how accessing quality information and using creativity and psychology can improve your money situation. I’ve been teaching these strategies in my workshops where I live and with Alumni360 (the non-profit financial literacy group I founded in 2014 for students from low-income backgrounds). Now, I feel compelled to share my knowledge with more people, possibly with the world.
There are so many young people who let money manage them instead of managing their money. They need someone they can connect with. They need someone to show the way and make it engaging and hopeful.
I desire to be that someone.
Thank you for your support of this project and thank you for sharing this page with your community. If you wish you had solid financial education when you were starting out in life, I appreciate you for supporting me in giving that very gift to others around the world.
