Hi,
My name is Simone. I was diagnosed with a brain tumour when my son was only 6. I desperately wanted support and advice about how to tell him about what was going to happen, but I couldn’t find anything. A few years later, while he and my husband were out enjoying an activity I can no longer do, I decided to create a picture book for parents to read with their children. I want the book to support discussions about tumour diagnosis. Not just brain tumours, but broad enough to use for any tumour. I wrote a poem for children to guide conversations and wrote a section for parents about my experiences. I found an incredibly talented illustrator who kindly created beautiful and gentle illustrations to help with explanations, without being clinical or intimidating. Neither of us are doing this project for money, but because we believe this type of book is vital for parents facing a scary diagnosis and worrying about telling young children. We want to raise just enough money to make this idea a reality and if we can raise enough, I’d like to provide copies of the book to local libraries and support charities to make it as accessible as possible. Please help me to get this support out there for the parents who need it.
