What is PAWS?

Public Animal Welfare Support (PAWS) is a community-driven fund created to help animals in crisis across Buckfield, Sumner, West Paris, and Stoneham, Maine. With the help of our volunteer group, the Critter Crew, we step in when urgent care is needed — providing emergency veterinary support, assisting families facing unexpected pet crises, and promoting responsible pet ownership in our towns.

Why We Need Your Help

Every day, local Animal Control responds to emergencies where animals are sick, injured, or need immediate intervention. Town budgets are limited, and while the Critter Crew volunteers their time, emergency veterinary care requires financial resources we simply don’t have without your help.

Your donation to the PAWS Fund will help:

• Cover emergency veterinary care for injured or sick animals in need

• Support critical spay/neuter services for high-risk animals

• Cover additional mileage needed to transport animals safely to urgent appointments

• Provide short-term assistance to families facing unexpected medical emergencies for their pets

• Equip volunteers with the supplies needed to assist during emergency rescues

• Promote community education on pet health, licensing, and vaccinations

Our Goal

We are aiming to raise $10,000 to establish PAWS as a reliable and rapid resource for animals facing medical emergencies and to support long-term community care.
