Dear Family, Friends and Community,

We, the members of St. Stephen Syriac Orthodox Church Community in Kitchener, Ontario, have come together with heavy hearts and deep compassion to pray and support our beloved parishioner, Sini Kurian, in her courageous battle against Stage 3 breast cancer.

Sini, dear wife of Mani Kuriakose and doting mother to two little boys (Grade 8 and Grade 3), was diagnosed with breast cancer in October 2024. She has recently undergone a mastectomy (surgical removal of one breast) and has a long way to go with eight rounds of chemotherapy.

Sini, a trained nurse, worked as a Personal Support Worker (PSW) in an old-age home until it shut down, leaving her jobless. Mani, a PSW, is on EI caregiver leave to attend to his wife full-time during this time. Unfortunately, his workplace is not unionised and does not have any employer-paid medical benefits.

OHIP covers the chemotherapy sessions, but each session has:

$250 worth of medication, and a $1,750 vaccine injection.

That's $2,000 per chemotherapy session, totalling $16,000 over the next 8 cycles — a devastating burden for one household scraping by on a single meagre income, much less paying rent, car payments, and necessities.

Sini and Mani have also been burdened with additional expenses in their native country, which weigh upon them.

We are humbly asking for your prayers, support, and contributions — every dollar counts and goes directly toward funding Sini’s essential treatment and supporting her family during this crisis.

“If one part suffers, all the parts suffer with it; if one part is honoured, all the parts share in its joy.” (1 Corinthians 12:26)
