After months of physical therapy, 4 X-Rays, 2 MRIs, an EMG, several internist appointments, more blood tests than we can remember, traumatologist, neurologist and neurosurgeon appointments, countless pain medicines and stimulants. I can confidently say I could really use your help. Ever since Michelle started feeling completely numb on her right toes back in April it has been an ongoing struggle to discover what was causing this, finding a few other health issues such as hypothyroidism and flat neck syndrome, that made finding the reason for the numbness especially hard. Unfortunately, it got so severe that Michelle can barely walk or stand up on her own. It has been a painful and ever-increasingly expensive experience. While we’ve been blessed with support from both of our families, I feel I must start asking and accepting help.
This past Tuesday we discovered a tumor called a Schwannoma on Michelle’s dorsal spine that’s the main cause for her lack of feeling that has now evolved into a high amount of difficulty walking, standing and being able to take care of Olivia at all. It is ever closer to becoming an impossibility to walk and just today she has started using a wheelchair. Things have advanced quickly and we have been able to secure a neurosurgeon whom we trust and know can carry out the procedure after being warned that the longer the wait, the higher the risk of her not being able to regain her former mobility and strength.
Michelle does not have health insurance. She is not a US citizen so she cannot be part of my work’s health insurance plan and her family does not have a health insurance plan. We are doing everything possible to find emergency care alternatives as well as private medicine. The neurosurgeon has assured us that the cost of the surgery will be at least 15,000 USD. This is not including the cost of rehabilitation care as well as any follow-up appointments; but since the most time-sensitive action right now is the operation since the tumor is progressively causing more and more damage, the money for the rest of that can be more easily arranged in some way. The sooner the surgery can be done the less damage that will be caused on Michelle’s central nervous system.
Thank you for taking the time to read our struggle and know that any bit of money helps immensely. We will be forever in your debt.
