Peakes Brook Farm Fundraiser!

Donation protected
Two years ago Dan, Jenine, and Pepper made the leap from Brooklyn, New York to the western Catskills with the goal of one day developing and operating a small fruit and vegetable farm.  We fell in love with an old farmhouse on Peakes Brook Road, and thus the dream of Peakes Brook Farm was born!

Jenine has a passion for youth education and environmental sustainability.  Prior to leaving Brooklyn she worked five years at the Brookln Botanic Garden running children's programs and managing a 1-acre urban garden.  Dan is a willing partner in any adventure, and his background in customer service and eagerness to help develop the land makes him an ideal counterpart in this venture.  Pepper's qualifications are that she's pretty cute, and a good digger, too!

For the last two years we have been working full-time jobs to save money and begin to work our land.  So far we have planted 100 blueberry bushes and 250 asparagus plants.  But there is so much more to do!

Our goal is to plant out a 1/2 acre of food crops by early next spring 2019.  By late spring, we want to start selling our produce at our farm stand, in addition to local businesses.   In order for us to achieve this, we need to invest in more resources for the farm and start getting dirty this fall!  With the arrival of our second child this September (ahhhh!) we know our hands will be full.

With the money that is raised, we intend to:
 - Build a small greenhouse for seed starting and season extension ($1,000)
 - Purchase amendments and inputs for building up our soil ($500)
 - Install a drip irrigation system for the crops ($1,000)
 - Expand an already existing blueberry orchard and asparagus patch ($400)
 - Enclose the entire 1/2 acre in fencing ($600)
 - Purchase materials to build a farm stand on site ($500)

Any support that people can give will enable us to be that much closer to fulfilling our goal of having a self sustaining business that will not only benefit us, but also the local and broader community.  Much of the produce that is grown here in the Catskills leaves our community for the markets in New York City.  Instead, we want to help feed and nourish our neighbors and friends right here in Delaware County.

Eventually, we want our farm to expand to include an educational component for children as well, as we are truly committed to helping instill curiosity and appreciation for the land that provides for us all.

We need this money in order for us to move forward with our dream.  We truly appreciate any donations possible, as no amount is too small to help us grow our future!
