My name is Cathy Missildine and I am raising money for Presley Mae Barnett, who was born on Friday, March 20, 2015. She is my little grand baby. She is a precious gift from God.
Chad and Kayla are her parents and they have been so excited about their second daughter being born. Kayla went through a difficult pregnancy and had several visits with specialists that told her that there "were no issues" with the baby. On Friday,, they were expecting a perfect baby girl.
The family gathered for the birth, (about 20 people in the waiting room) all ready for Presley. The news came at 9:31AM that Presley had a 99.9% chance of having Down's Syndrome. Of course Kayla and Chad were shocked and so overwhelmed. In the last five days it has been a roller coaster ride. Immediately after birth, Kayla was barely able to hold Presley as they took her to the NICU due to complications with breathing. On Saturday morning, the Doctor's informed Kayla and Chad that Presley was born without a rectum and surgery was imminent. Presley was at Kennestone Hospital and transferred to Scottish Rite to have surgery. The doctor's thought she may have a partial rectum, but that was not the case. She has a colostomy bag, that will have to be removed in about 6 months if she is able to go through a reconstructive rectum surgery. Since surgery she has been in the NICU on a ventilator being monitored 24x7. She's a real little fighter! Presley's little lungs collapsed but were quickly re-inflated.
Kayla and Chad are trying to manage Presley's care with also having a beautiful 4 year old, Emme. Chad has been unable to work and Kayla has been off work due to pregnancy related issues for 4 months.
This journey will be emotionally and financially draining. The expense to date is really high, not to mention just the simple things like eating out 3 meals in a hospital, gas going back and forth to pick up Emme, and parking at the hospital.
Kayla and Chad have already been informed that the colostomy bags, medications, and therapy will be out of pocket expenses that they were not prepared for as they were insured that their baby "had no issues."
The family support system is like none I have ever seen, but I know that this is a lifetime journey. I know Presley will be loved like no other child. However, this family needs outside support whether its a prayer for our girl, a financial donation or simple meal. Anything is greatly appreciated. God has answered so many prayers already....
