PT (Physical Therapy) for Paul
Donation protected
One week before his 51st birthday in June, Paul experienced a fall in his home resulting in a spinal cord injury. This fall shattered the C4 vertebrae bone in his neck which has paralyzed him from the chest down. Along with the devastating news of his paralysis, the doctors discovered that the C4 vertebrae contained a plasmacytoma (a plasma cell tumor that grows within soft tissue or within axial skeleton). This led the Medical Team to do more testing of Paul’s bone marrow to see if it has spread. These test results came back and unfortunately, Paul has additionally been diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma (a cancer of plasma cells found in the bone marrow).
After a month in ICU, he was transferred to an amazing rehabilitation center and had received daily Occupational and Physical Therapy sessions. Paul made hopeful, slow and steady progress and was able to move the fingers on his left hand, bicep movement on his right arm, and wiggled his toes on his left foot. Unfortunately, the rehab center was not a long-term stay facility and after 2 months, Paul was moved to an assisted living facility.
Paul loves to be active and loves to have fun but he also loves a challenge. His insurance only covers a limited number of Physical and Occupational Therapy sessions. A 45-minute therapy session costs about $40. We feel the more Physical and Occupational Therapy he receives, the better his chances are to regain his mobility, as well as bettering his chance to beat the cancer.
To help Paul tackle his biggest feat of getting back on his feet, we created this GoFundMe page to pay for as many Physical and Occupational Therapy sessions he can receive! If you could support his GoFundMe page by making a donation and sharing it in your network, we would greatly appreciate it.
We know these are difficult times and many are struggling with issues of their own and if monetary assistance isn’t feasible, he would also love your company. Give him a call to talk about your day, recommend good movies, tv or music, or talk mess about his Cowboys! Because of the recent COVID restrictions, Paul is unable to receive any socially-distant visitors at this time but we’ll notify you when that changes. We’re sure he would appreciate any form of love and support. Thank you for your time.
