Psychedelic Survivors

Donation protected
This GoFundMe is to raise money for supporting survivors of sexual abuse, sexual assault, and/or direct personal harm within the context of psychedelic therapy, psychedelic sessions or ceremony.

As more accounts of sexual abuse and harm in psychedelic spaces come to light, many community members are looking for support. We aim to offer free resources and support circles to help survivors and their loved ones process the unique emotions and pain that such situations bring up. Community care is important, in these times more than ever.

Survivors often assume great personal and financial risks to name their abusers publicly, and also often do not have the necessary legal, psychological and practical resources in place to appropriately care for themselves and their loved ones while they weather the aftermath of trauma. As we have seen time and time again, professional licensing and ethics boards, as well as the criminal justice system, offer little in the way of direct protection or compensation for victims of sexual abuse and other types of interpersonal harm. Indeed, survivors often put themselves at risk of greater harm by approaching such institutions.

Our intention is to create a safe, free, community-based alternative, with survivors themselves directing and overseeing the types of care that are provided. We hope that this site will facilitate support for survivors through access to trusted community members, peers, and professional guidance (according to the survivor’s needs, ability and comfort). Initial funding will be used to compensate the small number of part-time professionals who are working to create these structures of support. Eventually, we hope to be able to make grants directly to survivors themselves.

Our first objective is to develop our website with resources for survivors and community-based support services: www.psychedelic-survivors.com

Our second objective is to host our first survivor-support circle on Sunday, November 21st (3-5pm EST). Depending on availability of funds, and with input from survivors, we aim to hire a trauma-informed educator with experience in sexual abuse/assault cases to help guide the circle.

Our third, longer-term objective is to establish non-profit sponsorship and raise sufficient funds to be able to make grants for food, housing, childcare, healthcare and other basic needs directly to survivors themselves.

We (the hosts) have over two decades of combined experience holding safe, confidential, trauma-informed spaces for individuals in the psychedelic community. Much of this work has been offered pro-bono and in our very limited spare time. We are hopeful that with your donation, we can create the necessary foundation for a more sustainable and accessible system of support for survivors.

Please reach out if you have any questions about how funds are being used or if you are interested in making a large/sustaining donation. We also need your help in other ways! Please reach out if you have expertise in the following areas: legal guidance for survivors of sexual abuse/assault; non-profit incorporation and management; community/peer support; fundraising.

Thank you!
