Hello! We are Portland State Univeristy's first mariachi- Rosa Real! Starting in September 2022, PSU started offering a mariachi class in the school of music and theater. At this point we are a group of about 20 people-which includes PSU students as well as others who are part of the PSU community. We have all joined this class for a variety of different reasons. Some of us are part of this group because it's a way to connect with and celebrate our own cultural heritage, while for others it's a way to deepen an appreciation for a new style of music or even to learn a new instrument. We are excited to continue growing our program and have thus far received a warm welcome, getting invitations to play for different events in the community. It would be really special to be able to one day purchase the "Charros" (aka: mariachi attire) for each of the mariachi students, but these outfits are a bit out of the budget for most of the students (with the cost being upwards of $600 per person). If you feel moved to help support our efforts to purchase and wear the traditional mariachi attire, we would greatly appreciate anything you wish to donate. Every bit helps!
