Hi, my name is Kath.
On 31st October 2024, my life changed forever when I was the victim of a violent attack involving a knuckle duster ring. The injuries were catastrophic. I lost my right eye, not only my sight but also the natural structure of the eye itself. My eye socket, cheekbone, and jaw were all broken, leaving me with permanent physical injuries and deep emotional trauma.
Since the attack, everyday life has been incredibly challenging. Losing depth perception has made it difficult for me to return to work, and even simple tasks now require constant adjustment. Looking in the mirror is a daily reminder of the violence I survived, and the impact this has had on my confidence and sense of self has been overwhelming.
I am deeply grateful to the NHS for the care I have received and for providing me with a prosthetic eye. However, the standard prosthetic does not closely match my remaining eye, which has left me feeling extremely self-conscious. This has affected how I feel in public, in social situations, and even around people I love.
I have some important legal news to share. The Crown Prosecution Service has authorised a charge of Section 20 Grievous Bodily Harm under the Offences Against the Person Act. The CPS has also confirmed that this case includes an aggravating factor due to hostility motivated by my sexuality, under Section 66 of the Sentencing Act 2020. This is a huge step toward justice and accountability.
I am now hoping to raise funds to help cover the cost of a highly realistic, custom-made prosthetic eye from renowned specialist John Pacey-Lowrie. A prosthetic of this quality would help restore balance to my face and allow me to feel more like myself again. This is not about vanity, but about dignity, confidence, and healing after trauma.
Any support, no matter how small, would mean more than words can express. Your kindness would help me take an important step toward rebuilding my life and regaining confidence after an act of violence that changed everything.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read my story and for any support you are able to offer.
