Words from Brett: I know that there is a lot going on in the world, so let me try to keep this as brief as possible. I need surgery and I cannot currently afford the full costs. As too many people who fall through the cracks of healthcare in the US have to do, I am reaching out to strangers on the internet to help. I know we are in the midst of the holiday season, but I hope you'll take a minute to read my story.

For safety reasons I need to stay anonymous so will just be going by a pseudonym of “Brett”. I am currently fundraising for $6475 to go towards the remaining top surgery costs. I have saved what I can, applied to grants, and tried everything else before making this fundraiser. I’ve struggled for years with chest dysphoria and all I want in 2022 is a life full of the joy of loving my own body.

A little about me that I can safely share: Through much of the COVID19 pandemic, I worked for around minimum wage in an emergency room while patients flooded through the doors. My job was to care for patients and help connect them to resources to help with issues like food insecurity and unemployment. The idea of asking for help for myself instead of for others is deeply uncomfortable, I’m running out of options.

So, here we are. I’m just a not-yet-flat-chested boy standing here asking you if you can help. Whether it’s $5 or $50, I would be so incredibly grateful for the kindness. And I can guarantee that as a newly flat-chested healthcare worker, I will most certainly be paying it forward.
