As many of you know our friend Mary Compton has recently been diagnosed with cancer. She recently shared a post on Facebook letting people know the fight she will be facing, and one Mary intends to battle with everything she has!
Life has its ups and downs for all of us, but right now Mary has been dealt a tough hand. As a single mom, Mary received this cancer diagnosis right before the whole world “paused” due to the Coronavirus outbreak and subsequent “social distancing.” She began chemotherapy on April 7th, just days after one of her main sources of income closed its doors. Her cancer treatment has already been dramatically adjusted due to the virus, and now her ability to provide financially has been altered by the social ramifications of COVID-19.
When you talk with Mary, you are reminded of God’s promise to be “close to the brokenhearted” (Psalm 34:18) because though Mary should be discouraged, she is hopeful. Even when days get dark, she has been determined. Things may be “falling apart” but she is finding empowerment from Jesus and from the people He puts around her.
I hope you have had a chance to hear Mary share some of the ways that God is using these difficult days for Good. I think she would love to share that with you. Now, for those who are able, this is our opportunity to share what we can with her.
Mary has consistently looked for ways to help out her local church, her friends, our wider communities, and above all, her family. If she had the opportunity to be a help or a blessing, I have seen her take it time and time again without hesitation.
Let’s not hesitate to be a blessing for her and for Bekah! If you are able, in whatever means, let’s give of ourselves for the betterment of one of our dear friends.
In the Facebook post on April 5th, where Mary shared her difficult news, she writes
“When my friend…found out, he took off this "Warrior" medal and told me to wear this through the battle. It says "Put on the Full Armor of God". I just wanted to also thank all the people who have stopped by to drop off groceries: Nancy and Matt and Bill and Stacy and Marybeth. For Pam who cooked a GREAT meal. For those who dropped off blessings; Ruby, Leigh, Janet, Scott and Joan. I'm determined to beat this and to somehow make an income. The newspapers I freelanced for shut the doors this past Tuesday. All I can tell you is I'm going to stand. don't any of you give up either. There are better days coming. #FightLikeAWarrior”
People are already being a blessing! Let’s continue to lend a hand, open our hearts and support our friend in this very difficult moment, who has and will do anything she can to help support us! Let’s take up this fight for Mary. Let’s #FightWithMary and battle this together!
“There are better days coming.”
