My name is Bridgette Doctor. I was born and raised in Caledonia, Westmoreland, Jamaica, and we now reside in the United Kingdom. I know that across the world, many of us are facing a cost of living crisis. Times are difficult, and it may feel as though we don’t have much to spare. That is why this campaign is not asking for grand gestures. We are asking for something simple: just £1 and a share.
If you cannot give, please share this campaign to your social media. Your share alone could reach someone who is able to help.
My family, both here in the UK and in the United States, are joining together to support the rural communities that shaped us communities that raised us, loved us, and made it possible for us to become who we are today. We were brought up by the elders of these villages, people who fed us, prayed for us, and held our future in their hands. Now, they need us.
This is our time to give back.
We are a proud Jamaican family from the heart of Westmoreland Parish, and Jamaica is woven into every part of us, from the rhythm of bobbing crimson, gold and green flags to the laughter of children under mango trees, from the gentle sea breezes in Savanna-la-Mar to the quiet hills of Darliston. Our friends and family in these rural communities have faced hardship. They have felt the pain of storms, the ache of waiting for help, and the frustration of being forgotten when media spotlights fade.
We remember the grandmother in Savanna-la-Mar who stood by her weather-worn window, looking out at a roof that had been patched too many times. We remember the young boy in a hillside who walks barefoot through narrow paths to fetch water, dreaming of a future his parents struggle to imagine. We remember the mother in a small coastal settlement whose heart is full of love but whose hands are full of tasks she cannot complete alone. These are the people we grew up with. These are the people we are rooted to.
We are determined to bring hope back to those places the world has forgotten. We will journey into the villages between Savanna-la-Mar and Darliston, into the valleys and coastal roads, and we will stand alongside community leaders and trusted volunteers. We will deliver food, offer aid, strengthen care for the elderly, bring education and opportunity to the children, and provide first-aid and resources for those who cannot reach help themselves. We will take photographs of our time there capturing the dignity of the people, the strength of their spirit, the beauty of their land, and the transformation your generosity makes possible.
When you give, every dollar, pound or euro will reach someone who needs it. It will reach the grandmother who needs a secure roof, the young boy who needs shoes, the mother who needs relief. It will reach the communities that make Jamaica what it is the people who hold its history, live its heart and keep its future alive.
Join us in this mission. Join us in walking with our all important communities, in Westmoreland’s rural heart. Together we will bring Jamaica back. Together we will bring our home back. Thank you for believing in our vision, for caring deeply and for helping us stand with the ones we love.
