This year P.S. 189 turned 50 years old!
We need your support to honor our school in historic fashion.
Hi Everyone,
This video invitation is for everyone who has ever attended P.S. 189 as a student scholar, to everyone who has taught and served at P.S. 189 as an educator and staff member, and to everyone of the amazing administrative leaders, Principals, assistant principals, deans and so many more who contributed to building generations of students who have gone on to be a host of professionals who are also parents, good stewards and leaders of their own community.
If you are reading this, it's because you have at some point in your life been impacted by a very special place. Some of us have called it “The Bilingual Center”. Some have called it the “Lincoln Terrace School”. Maybe to you, it's just the school on East New York and Rockaway ave. Whatever you remember it as... there is no doubt that this place has been a community staple and a treasure to families and students for the past 5 decades.
We are raising money to celebrate the Semi-centennial 50th anniversary of Public School 189, The Bilingual Center.
How will your donation help?
In partnership with the school, we have set out a goal to cover a number of components that will help the school truly celebrate what these 5 decades mean to them and everyone connected to the school.
Outdoor flags and pole installations ($5000) - We will create and install outdoor signage, similar to those that are used on a college campus, for the tree poles that are located at the corners and the front entrance of the school.
189 Museum ($5,000) - We will use the second floor to showcase the historical moments of 189. The chosen items will be framed and mounted to the walls and bulletin boards. In addition, the current picture frames and plaques will be upgraded so that it will match the new installations. $10,000 will be able to cover the space between the Principal's office and the main office.
In person celebration ($5,000) - We will use a portion of your donation to have an in person celebration in the spring/summer. We will like to have the event at the park located across the street from the school. If Covid-19 restrictions are still in effect, we will opt for a virtual event instead.
We greatly appreciate your support. There are more parts to the fundraiser goal items and we will continue to provide updates as we raise more funds.
