Hey, ya'll. This is Liz. You may know her from her @awomaninscience handle where she's all about advocacy, activism, and ass-kicking as a radical femme with deep Appalachian roots and a passion for harm reduction, which is to say she never turns down an opportunity to come through for her community. Now, it's our turn to come through for her.
After working—full-time while maintaining a 4.0 GPA—her entire adult life to attend graduate school, she's hit a wall. For much of her life, she's helped financially support her biological family, and when she asked for their help in return, things got messy, resulting in an unmet promise and an unpaid tuition bill that accrued interest and is sitting at $3,500. She was kept in the dark about this—"We took care of it. Don't worry."—until she started her current application process, which requires her to pay off the debt so she can get her transcripts released and be considered for acceptance.
But you know what? Something tells me Liz's chosen family—who she lovingly refers to as the steaming piles of sunshine who have taught her that radical love is the deep, emotional connectivity that you feel to your friends, and that this love is resistance—isn’t about to let her down. So let’s help one of the fiercest people we know get into a nursing program so she can continue to work in harm reduction with marginalized rural populations. Let's make a bet on the future, baby! ❤️
