UConn Bridge to Guanin Altbreak
Donation protected
UConn Bridge to Guanin is sponsored through the UConn Pre-Medical Society, and is a student-run, faculty-advised alternative break trip to the Dominican Republic open to students interested in a career in medicine. Each trip, we send a group of about 15 undergraduate students to the Dominican Republic to provide medical care both in hospitals and at the Guanin Community Center located in a rural region in the Dominican Republic called La Piedra. This alternative break program started in 2014 and has since then has helped this community by building schools, medical clinics, and houses, donated thousands of dollars in medical supplies and medicine, and finally provided medical care to over 1700 people. Furthermore, over the past trips we have been able to help this community have access to safe water, have given basic medical care to people -both in forms of home visits and working at the onsite medical clinic in the community center- and have financially supported the purchase of a bus and are in the process of acquiring an ambulance. The money that we are raising through this GoFundMe will aid this year's service trip in continuing to provide this service and further advance the community of La Piedra in achieving the prosperity and self-sustainability they are so worthy of. With your help we will be able to continue helping a community that is in desperate need.
