Justin & Ellie Pruitt.
Justin & Ellie married June 2015, joining two wonderful families into one. This family included 5 wonderful children, Conner, Bella, Lily, Maddie, & Ashton. In late October 2015, Ellie found out she was pregnant. Not only that, she was to expect twins! Yes! Twins. Since then, Ellie has had a fairly smooth pregnancy with the twins. Dr's originally planned to induce a few weeks early . Every appointment went well with good reports. She and babies(Jaxton & Juliette) grew normally, happy and heathly.
On Monday, May 2nd. Ellie called Justin in a panic. She was having pains, she knew were not ok. After two children already, she knew what she was feeling was real labor contractions. They rushed into see the Dr. that afternoon. And yes, she was right. Ellie had gone into pre-term labor at 28 weeks. Dr.'s admitted her immediately to begin the process of hoping to stop labor. They succeeded. Although they were able to stop it, they kept her there on hospital bedrest because of how far she had dilated. They were worried of how quickly the babies would come if she were to go into preterm labor again. While Justin has juggled a full time job, part time job, and raising their 5 children at home with the help of family, Ellie has been on strict hospital bedrest. Once stabilized, her daily routine was to be put on the monitors (used to measure babies heart rates to ensure they are stable) twice a day. Once in the AM and once in the PM. Things had gone smoothly with that routine until Saturday, May 21st. Jaxton's heart rate had a different vibe to it. They had Ellie eat and reposition, and checked again. Babies heart beat seemed back to normal. Dr suggested to let her rest and begin checking first thing in AM. So on Sunday, May 22 at about 6:45, Nurses came to hook the monitors up. Jaxton has a perfectly normal heart rate but it wasn't showing as much variation as they like to see. They had Ellie drink some sugary fluids to help and continued to monitor her. During that time, at about 8 am several nurses begin to pour in. And just like that, Jaxton's heart beat was gone. They worked a few short minutes to see if maybe he had just moved away from the monitor (he had done this before). And nothing. They immediately rushed Ellie down to OR for emergency delivery. Baby girl Juliette was born at 8:08 am weighing 3 lbs an d14 oz, baby boy Jaxton was born at 8:10 am weighing 4lbs. Jaxton's umbilical cord had wrapped around his neck twice and once around his ankle. The cord had cut off his oxygen flow. They immediatley began working on Jaxton, performing CPR and other protocols for a total of 8 minutes before they were able to get a heart beat back.
Juliette is in the NICU and Jaxton is in critical NICU. Dr's have accessed and examined both babies. Juliette as of Monday has been taken off the ventilator and is breathing on her own. Justin and Ellie were even able to hold and feed her today. Jaxton, is still in critical care. As they begin to wean him off some of the medications today he is peeing on his own and his pupils seem to be responsing. Dr's warn that all of the good news means nothing if there is brain damage. Plan is to have a brain scan done today, to access the extent of damage done to the brain due to lack of oxygen. Depending on the results of this scan, there will be decisions to be made. Such as, if he should be moved to Vanderbilt Childrens Hospital, or Justin and Ellie have to face a decision no parent should have to make.
This sweet, loving family needs all the prayers they can get. We need to pour love support and the power of prayer into this family, especially Jaxton.
Along with the life altering, tragic experience the Pruitts are facing, they are being dealt a tough hand. As you can imagine, with 5 kids at home, Mom, Dad and twin babies are at the hosptial , there comes a financial burden. We have not yet been able to have their baby shower. There are numerous vital supplies needed to prepare for them. Not to mention with Justin and Ellie confined to the hospital until further notice, they are lacking their income. Yes Justin has some paid time off he can take, but that is very limited. Ellie, whom had just started a new job right after finding out she was pregnant, doesn't have much time built up. Therefore I am asking, if you have anything you can give, it will go not go unnoticed, and will be very appreciated. This fund will go to pay bills and buy food for the kids being taken care of at home by family members. Also, the fund will help buy any items needed for the babies once they do come home such as diapers, wipes, bottles, clothes, etc.. If you have children, you know to what extent the needs can be.
I would like to Thank you for taking the time to read their story, and ask that you please send all the prayers you can. We plan to keep everyone updated.
