I am a father of three, an activist and psychologist primarily working with low income immigrant communities and identifying special needs children for services. The family I am raising funds for is a single mother with two children, one of which with special needs. Mother is from another country and her primary language is an indigenous one, with Spanish being her second language. She has survived domestic violence and has sole custody of the children with a restraining order. In addition to this trauma, the home where she was renting a room was recently invaded, with such damage being sustained that the home was rendered unlivable, and the family endured yet another trauma. She and her two children are living in their car or in hotel rooms, funded by her children’s teachers, With the threat of ICE in the area still looming, it is difficult to find services and support. The local shelters and charities have no space for her family. She works picking strawberries and other crops in the fields, back breaking and painful work supplying food from California to many of our homes across the country. I am seeking funds for basic food and shelter for this family while they recover from trauma and attempt to find stability for the children. One month’s rent of a studio apartment in this area can average 1500-2000 dollars. There are many stories similar to this, but this situation was especially dire. This is my family of the month. Please consider offering a helping hand, as a small offering can make a huge difference to this family. (I have requested permission to share details of this family and have altered some elements of identity to protect confidentiality)
