Cancer Survivor Trapped in 24/7 Pain—Help Me Get the Handicapped Van I Desperately Need!
My name is Michael, and I’m reaching out because I am suffering every single day, trapped in a body that is failing me, confined to my home, and desperate for a way to reclaim a small piece of life outside these walls.
I am a renal cancer survivor, but my battle didn’t end there. My body has been through two heart attacks, a stroke, congestive heart failure, diabetes, atrial fibrillation (AFib), two spine surgeries, knee replacements, a pacemaker, and a pain pump that no longer works—leaving me in relentless, unbearable pain 24/7.
I am on oxygen around the clock, I take 30 prescription medications daily, and yet there is no relief. The pain is a constant, suffocating presence, making even the simplest movements agonizing. I can barely stand for 90 seconds before my body gives out. My life has been reduced to moving between my bed, the toilet, and my recliner. This is not living. This is survival, and I need help.
For years, I have been homebound. I can’t step outside, feel the sun on my face, or visit the places that once gave me purpose. I am trapped in these four walls, longing for a breath of fresh air, to attend church, to volunteer, to simply live again.
My wife of 45 years, Dianna, is my full-time caregiver. She does everything she can, but the weight of this burden is overwhelming. We both long for something as simple as driving to the store together, going to a medical appointment without relying on unreliable transportation, or just feeling like a part of the world again.
I have an electric wheelchair, but without a handicap-accessible van, it’s useless beyond my house. I have so much more I want to do—help the homeless in my community, volunteer at church, and continue playing Santa for the Toys for Joy event, bringing holiday cheer to those who need it most.
I am in desperate need of a Toyota Sienna Hybrid Van, which costs about $40,000 for an used one in good enough condition. It would give me the freedom to leave my home, attend medical appointments, and regain a sense of purpose.
My doctor was recently considering putting me on hospice care to manage my pain, but for now, we are still fighting. I don’t want to spend whatever time I have left as a prisoner in my own home.
I am asking—pleading—for your help. Your donation, no matter how small, could be the key to getting me back out into the world, even if just for a drive with my wife and our dog, Mylo.
I know times are tough for everyone, but if you can find it in your heart to help, you would be giving me the gift of freedom. If you are unable to donate, please share my story. Every share, every prayer, and every bit of kindness means the world to me.
Thank you for your compassion and generosity.
With gratitude,
Michael, Dianna, and Mylo McCafferty
