Aloha, my name is David Dolan. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Certified Substance Abuse Counselor, and Nationally Certified Counselor in Maui, Hawaii. I have a small mental health practice in upcountry Maui and I specialize in the treatment of trauma, addiction, and anxiety as well as being trained in Disaster Response Crisis Counseling. I am working on expanding our space at Bodhi Wellness and Psychotherapy to include a large 720 sq ft group room where we will be providing post-disaster crisis counseling to various groups of people including first responders and those helping during the Maui Wildfires, those who have lost their homes, those who have lost a loved one, people in long term recovery from substance use disorders, and more. We will also be providing other wellness offerings to clients as well as community members, including yoga, breathwork, meditation, sound healing, recovery meetings, and community events.

I was born in New Jersey and grew up on the Jersey Shore. I was 17 when 9/11 happened and a graduate student at Monmouth University's Counseling program during Super Storm Sandy. I had direct experience being through both of these events and the power that disaster can have on the community and the importance of mental health care for long-term recovery. My wife and I have lived on Maui for 7 years now and it is our home. Our hearts are broken by the devastation of the fires, the loss of life, and the destruction of sacred and historical sites of this island and the Hawaiian culture. As we grieve the loss of so much, I am working on tending to my clients, volunteering in the community and setting up long-term care such as this project.

The donations raised here will be used to fund the delivery of these groups to the community with little to no out-of-pocket expense to those who attend, including covering any rent, supplies, and securing quality mental health and wellness providers. We are seeking support from FEMA and other avenues but that all takes time. This support can get us moving right away and help us to create a safe and caring environment for people in the community to gather, cry, talk story, and heal.
