Hi, my name is Ben Sweezey and I'm a student at Mount Allison University, in New Brunswick, Canada. We are in partnership with the Medical Brigades program, which helps to provide medical, dental, and visual aid to rural communities in different disadvantaged countries. We provide intake, triage, checkups, prescriptions, antibiotics, pre-natal care, dental work, visual examinations and glasses provisions, and so much more. The cover cost for each volunteer is $3,140 CAD, and this covers flights, board, food, security, and transportation between communities. Any additional fundraising also goes to stock piling as many medical supplies as possible to insure we help as many people as possible during our week there. Unfortunately, we do work in some unsafe areas, so security increases the overall cost, but there is no way around this. It is our goal to get as many volunteers into Guatemala as possible, because if we have enough volunteers who raise enough funds, we get to open additional clinics such as OB/GYN or nutrition for examples. Many of us cannot fund this medical aid trip ourselves, so we heavily rely on fundraising, and generous donors on sites just like this. Any help whatsoever is so greatly appreciated, and I hope I get to help as many Guatemalans as I can.
