My name is Clare and I’m an American who has been in contact with a Gazan English/Arabic translator named Areej Shaheen since January, 2024. We have a system in place for getting money to her despite the challenges of getting any aid into Gaza at the moment.
Feb 2026 needs:
Tents
Blankets
Tents
Food
Drinking water
Medications for diabetics and other chronic illnesses
Feb 2026 Update from Areej:
Gaza is living under difficult and complex circumstances, with daily challenges escalating due to the multiple crises plaguing the region. The pace of life here has drastically changed, impacting every aspect of residents' lives. War, the blockade, and dire economic conditions have exacerbated the suffering, and the deteriorating situation today demands clear attention from the outside world.
Gaza's healthcare system is crumbling. Hospitals lack the medical equipment and medicines needed to treat patients. Many illnesses, such as diabetes, hypertension, and other chronic diseases, present daily challenges, as many people require medications that are prohibitively expensive. The community here needs your support more than ever. You can help by providing food, medicine, and clothing, as well as cash assistance that helps families meet their daily needs.
Nov 2025 update from Areej:
The bombing hasn't stopped, but it's much less intense than before, and they're also preventing food from getting in. Many people are sleeping in the streets now, without food, water, or the most basic necessities. The world thinks things are fine here, but the situation is catastrophic. Throughout the day, people come to me asking for help. They need tents, blankets, covers, food, and water. Many of them need medication for chronic illnesses like heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and many other conditions.
March 2025 Update from Areej: Thank you to everyone who donated, shared the link, and helped continue this humanitarian work. This link has saved many, many people, including those with diabetes, heart disease, and high blood pressure. It has saved many children and the elderly.
Guys, I live here and I see everything with my own eyes. The people here have lost everything: their homes, their money, their families. They have tasted all kinds of death and suffering.
Every day and every moment people come to me asking for help. I listen to their stories. I hear stories that make stones and trees weep bitterly over their situation. Please do not stop this humanitarian work. Perhaps this work will lead us to heaven.
November 2024 Update: Areej has moved her tent from Rafah to Khan Yunis and is now in Al-Qarara. Word has spread that she has been helping sick and starving people. Every day, people come to her tent asking for help, but she is only able to provide what she can afford. She risks her own life to obtain food and medicine and distribute it to those who need it most.
From May 2024: I see people dying before my eyes every day. When aid enters Gaza, there is a group of people who take it and sell it at ridiculous prices... We have saved many lives because of these donations. Many were fighting death, and thanks to these donations, they are still alive.... With the money you sent, I bought insulin. I distributed it in the morning to some diabetics here. I want to tell you that the joy of the people was indescribable. Many of them burst into tears of joy and continued to pray for you. Thank you very much.
From May 1st: There is an area full of people who do not have access to drinking water. The other day I was going there to give a woman insulin and I saw the condition of the people crying. Their wish is to drink safe water. Can you provide support to provide that for them? I swear to you that I cried bitterly today over what I saw there.
From April 12th: I bought a whole cart of drinking water and distributed it to people in the tents. I made a group meal more than once. Some friends and neighbors helped me buy medicines...It's tiring, but I forget all the tiredness when I see the joy in the eyes of the people here - when I help them.
From March 21st: I went to collect some food and medicine and distributed them to the tents here. Other than that, today I made a group Iftar [a traditional meal during Ramadan] for many of the tents here, and my friends helped me do that… Since the morning I have been walking on my feet, I still feel very tired and exhausted because I exerted great physical effort while I was fasting today. But.. I forgot all this fatigue when I saw the joy in the eyes of innocent people and the thing that made me very happy… We did a great thing today, my friend. We provided a lot of medicine, insulin, food, and drinking water to people. Thank you, my friend
From Feb 11th: For several days, I have not been able to help anyone because I spent all my money helping people. Today, when you sent $100, I went to some tents to see who needed medicine, food, or something urgent. I found a woman in a tent. Her husband and 3 of her children were killed. She gave birth yesterday. She suffers from severe bleeding and needs emergency treatment. She does not have anything of the necessities of life, no milk, nothing. So I went and risked a lot of myself to get her what she needed. God helped me, and I did that and gave her what she needed. When I left the tent, I burst into tears. I thought in my mind, if I had not helped her, how would she have been? What is the fault of these innocent people? With the money I had left, I bought drinking water and canned beans for people who did not have food.
From Feb 12th: Famine and shortages of medicine are very common here. Today I bought insulin for a child whose feet were amputated. He needs insulin and vitamins. His health condition was in danger of death. Thank God, I brought all the medications he needed.
From March 12th: I am devastated by the condition of the people here. I see many people dying of hunger. I risk my life every day for them. Every day I see death and God saves me, but I do not know how long I will continue to be saved. I am doing all this to save the lives of those remaining here.
From March 12th: With all my heart, I thank you and my fellow journalists here say hello. I wrote on my notepad some very urgent medicines for people. In the morning, I will buy it and deliver it to them. Things are getting difficult. I am risking a lot in my life for people and I will not stop. For myself I just need prayers.
